The Philosophical Society of Finland, established by Professor Thiodolf Rein in October 1873, will celebrate its 150th anniversary by organizing an international conference,
Perspectives on the History of Philosophy in Finland
in Helsinki, on October 19-20, 2023.
Conference venue: Tieteiden talo (House of Sciences and Letters), Kirkkokatu 6, Helsinki.
We are inviting abstract submissions on any topic related to the history of Finnish philosophy. Papers to be presented can focus on, for example, the following themes (the list is not exhaustive):
- The relations between philosophical traditions in Finland.
- The philosophical views of Finnish thinkers of the past.
- Is there such a thing as “Finnish philosophy”? What could it be?
- Philosophy teaching in Finland.

- Dagfinn Føllesdal (University of Oslo)
- Friedrich Stadler (University of Vienna)
- Claudine Tiercelin (Collège de France)
Submission guidelines
Please send an abstract (max 500 words) to sihteeri@filosofinenyhdistys.fi by April 30, 2023. Notification of acceptance: June 15, 2023. The exact length of the papers to be presented depends on the number of submissions to be accepted, but we are planning ca. 30-minute presentations followed by ca. 10-minute Q&A.
We are tentatively planning to publish a volume of articles based on the conference in the Acta Philosophica Fennica series published by the Philosophical Society of Finland.
